Meet Preparation Tips

It takes a lot of preparation to get ready for a meet.  Here are a few tips for the big day.
  •  
Wear comfortable running shoes with light colored socks
  •  
The key to an athletic diet is balance and moderation
  •  
Avoid all fried foods and try not to experiment with new foods
  •  
On meet days eat sparingly, but make sure you eat two daily meals
with a small  snack about 2 -3 hours prior to the meet
  •  
Do not eat eggs, cream cheese, bacon and milk on the race day
  •  
Be sure to have 6 to 8 glasses of water EVERY day, don’t just drink
when you are thirsty
  •  
Gatorade and Propel are great drinks to have after a meet to replace
lost carbohydrates and electrolytes
   
   
Pre Exercise Snack Options
  •  
Peanut butter and a small banana
  •  
Trail Mix (mixed nuts, raisins, pretzels, mini chocolate chips, etc.)
  •  
Corn tortilla covered with cheddar cheese, broiled and topped with mild salsa
  •  
Fruit snacks

Unsalted pretzels

Fruit

Dismissal Routine for Meets 

Parents should pull in and park in a parking spot in the church parking lot.
You do not need to enter the building. We will dismiss the children in time to change into their uniforms and then we will walk them out to get into the cars. Please be sure to get there before 3:00.

If your child is going to be riding with another parent, please send a note with your child stating who they will be riding with. If you have other children who do not run but will be going with you to the meet, please send a note with those children and we will bring them out at the same time.

Directions to Assumption Meet
( North Gate High School )

Nortgate High School is located at 591 Union Avenue in Bellevue.  The course distance is about 1.5 miles on the high school grounds. The course is partially shaded. 

Directions from the north:

·
        Take I-79 South to I-279 South.
·
        Get off at Exit 14 ( Bellevue/West View Exit ).
·
        At the bottom of the ramp, turn left at the light onto Union Avenue Ext.     
         to Bellevue.
·
        Union Avenue Ext. becomes Union Avenue.
·
        Go approximately 1 mile on Union Avenue and turn left into the High
         School.
·
       
Go all the way around the back of the school to park.

                                           Butler Catholic Meets
                                  Butler County Community College
                                    107 College Dr, Butler, PA 16001

This course is located on the campus of Butler County Community College (BC3).  Follow the campus sign to the field house.  Park behind the field house, close to the baseball field.  We start the race behind the right field fence of the baseball field.  The course is 1.58 miles and hilly. 

1. Head North on S Main St (Rt 19)           0.3 mi
2. Turn right onto E Grandview Ave            0.6 mi
3. Continue onto PA-68 E/Evans City Rd  15.3 mi
    Continue to follow PA-68 E                     
4. Slight right onto New Castle Rd            1.1 mi
5. Slight right onto W Cunningham St        0.6 mi
6. Turn right onto S Main St                      0.3 mi
7. Continue onto PA-8 S/Pittsburgh Rd      2.4 mi
8. Turn left onto Decatur Dr                       0.6 mi
9. Take the 1st left onto College Dr            0.3 mi
    Destination will be on the right

The park is about ¼ mile down on the right.

St. Bonaventure Meet
Shaler High School

  • Take I-79 South toward PITTSBURGH.    
  • Keep LEFT to take I-279 South via EXIT 72 toward PITTSBURGH.
  • Take EXIT 12 toward US-19 / PERRYSVILLE AVENUE.
  • Get off exit.  At end of the ramp, make a Left and follow to light.  At light, go straight across onto Cemetery Lane.
  • Follow Cemetery Lane to end and make a Right onto Babcock Blvd.
  • Follow Babcock Blvd to light at Monte Cellos and make Left onto Thompson Run Road.
  • Follow Thompson Run until you see sign for Vilsack, then make Right onto Vilsack.
  • At first stop sign you will make a Right onto Anderson. 
  • Follow Anderson until you see a Baseball Diamond to your left then make a Left into the gravel parking lot named Matulevic field.
  • Meets start at the back of the gravel parking lot

Distance about 11 miles.  Estimated time 20 minutes
1. Head west on Pine St toward Linden St   0.1 mi
2. Take the 1st right onto Linden St   0.4 mi
3. Turn left at PA-288 W/W New Castle St

Continue to follow PA-288 W

  9.8 mi
4. Turn right at Fountain Ave   0.2 mi
5. Turn left at Sims St   0.2 mi
6. Take the 1st right onto Riverside Dr   0.4 mi

Coming from the north, take I-79 south to the Wexford/910 exit, and follow Rt. 910 east to Pearce Mill Road and turn RIGHT (You'll see a sign at Pearce Mill directing you into the park). Follow Pearce Mill through the park to the T intersection at Babcock Blvd and turn RIGHT. Get in the left hand lane, and follow Babcock through the stoplight and up to the top of the hill. Bear LEFT onto Hemlock.

Follow Hemlock to the top of the hill and bear left again onto South Ridge (you'll see a sign directing you to the pool and Ball fields). You are now in a HUGE parking lot. Stay in the travel lanes on the right, and bear left around the parking lot (stay in the right hand lane) until you come to the T intersection and turn RIGHT. You'll pass Pie Traynor field on your right if you're on the correct road.

Take the Pennsylvania Turnpike East to Exit 39, Butler. Follow Rt. 8 South to the 6th traffic light (2.3 miles) and turn left onto Wildwood Road (Hoss' is on the right). Follow Wildwood until it comes to a T.  Turn right onto Middle Road. Go straight through 3 stops signs.  About ½ mile past the 3rd stop sign, Winston Thurston school will be on the right and Central Elementary school will be on the left.  Make the next left after Central Elementary school into the parking lot and park.  Walk down the hill on the path to an open field in back.  This field is in Hartwood Acres.

1. Head east on Pine St toward Peach St                             59 ft
2. Slight left at W Beaver St                                                0.4 mi
3. Turn left at US-19 N/S Main St/Perry Hwy/
    Continue to follow US-19 N/Perry Hwy                             1.5 mi
4. Turn right at Little Creek Rd                                            0.8 mi
5. Take the ramp onto I-79 N                                             11.1 mi
6. Take exit 99 for US-422 toward New Castle/Butler            0.2 mi
7. Turn left at US-422 W/Benjamin Franklin Hwy                  8.6 mi
8. Continue onto New Butler Rd                                          0.5 mi
9. Continue onto US-422 BUS W                                        1.0 mi

When you get on Business 422 or Butler Ave, you will eventually pass a Giant Eagle/Get Go on the left.  There will be a stop light at the the Get Go.  Follow 422 around a slight curve to the next light is Cascade St.  You will see an empty BP station on the left and a Subway on the corner ahead. This is a 5 point intersection and you want to turn right on S. Cascade.  This will take you past a post office on the right and some housing on the left.  You will come to a stop sign for the intersections of 108 and 168.  Go straight.  You will see a Pizza Joes on the right. You come to another stop almost immediately after the previous stop. Cross 168 to stay on Cascade street.  You will pass some homes, come to some woods on the left and when the woods open you will see Flaherty Field.

                         YOUTHTOWNE DIRECTIONS FROM PITTSBURGH

Take Parkway (Route 60 - Southern Expressway) towards the Airport. Go one exit past the Airport to the Clinton Exit (1 mile beyond the Airport Exit). Exit at Clinton. At stop sign, turn left onto Moon-Clinton Road. Follow Moon-Clinton to the red light (2 miles). You will be at an intersection with Route 30 (Stop-N-Go is on your left; Clinton Post Office is on the far-left corner; and Mamone's Restaurant is on your right). Continue straight, crossing Route 30. Travel only the length of the Post Office, and then bear right onto Wilson Road (into the entrance for Clinton United Presbyterian Church). Bear right onto Wilson Road, staying to the right of the church and cemetery. Wilson Road turns into Youthtowne Road (currently a gravel road). Follow Youthtowne Road for a mile. Baseball field, parking, and the barn is on the right; soccer field is on the left.

Cooper's Lake

Take Interstate 79 North to exit 99-Rt. 422W New Castle. At the stop sign, make a left onto 422. After .7 mile, make a right onto Currie Rd. Coopers Lake is about 1 mile straight back Currie.
